About the Pack
Welcome to the 1st West Moors Cub Pack (Vikings). Cubs are welcome to join our pack from the age of 8 years up until they are 10 and a half. We welcome both boys and girls to our pack.
The leaders names are taken from the characters from the Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, a close friend of Lord Robert Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting.
Akela, Kaa, Chil, Baloo, Bagheera, Shere Khan etc.
Activities
There is a wide range of activities for the Cubs to experience from learning the basic Scouting skills such as simple knots and lashings to more adventurous activities such as canoeing, shooting or archery.
The Cubs often enjoy an evening of shooting and/or Archery. The sessions are run by qualified leaders from the group with strict safety controls and procedures in place to minimize any risks.
Baloo's IT Sessions
The cub pack leaders run IT sessions on a Saturday morning to encourage badge work and a better understanding of computers. The group now owns 4 PCs. The IT badge is staged throughout Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, having a total of 5 stages.
Challenge Badges
Part of the Cubs progress towards the Chief Scout's Silver Award is the achievement of 3 challenge badges. Bird boxes, tables and feeders were made over a couple of evenings and taken home to varnish and finish off. This contributed towards the Creative Challenge badge.
Camping
Each year during the Summer half term, the cubs go camping for 5 nights. During the camp, they are taken on an outing to a museum or place of interest.
2004 - The aviation museum in Southampton.
2005 - Yeovilton Fleet air-arm museum
2006 - Bovington Tank museum
